The mission of Sanford House is to inspire women to know the beauty, vibrancy and richness of a life in recovery...
Sanford House recognizes the unique needs and roles of the client in treatment. We also highlight client empowerment, through an emphasis on choices, throughout the recovery process.
Sanford House staff utilize the welcoming principles of motivational interviewing. We meet the client “where they are at.”
Sanford House works to concentrate its services in a single, non-stigmatizing environment. It also provides gender exclusive groups, therapists, resident supervisors and peer recovery support specialists.
All staff strive to address the client's personal and environmental obstacles to recovery. In addition, they help each person identify and utilize their unique strengths.
A non-hierarchical model of client-staff relationships is encouraged. Also, emphasis is placed on the respect of one's rights, choices and preferences. And most importantly, there is respect for confidentiality.
Our treatment philosophy incorporates substance use disorders (SUDs) and co-occurring mental health disorders. This means we treat alcoholism with OCD or drug addiction together with an eating disorder. In integrated treatment, we utilize evidence-based practices from Seeking Safety to address trauma; Motivational Interviewing; Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction; Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy; and Interactive Journaling.
Sanford House strives to better serve our clients as evidenced by increased collaboration with other organizations. In the form of shared resources, contractual relationships, and the integration of high quality recovery treatment and support services.
“Much of what I learned at Sanford House takes on new meaning as I accumulate experiences as a newly sober person. My time at Sanford has served as the foundation for rebuilding the life I systematically destroyed during my active drinking. I am so thankful to the Sanford family for the new start you gave me...”
