National Recovery Month Lecture Series – Women and Addiction

Thanks to Spectrum Health and Jody Cadarette-Sprague for hosting Sanford House and its presentation on “Women and Addiction” for National Recovery Month. The CE Credit Course was given by Sanford House founder and addiction counselor, Rae Green. Rae’s presentation covered topics such as:

 

Women and Addiction

  • The path of addiction in women
  • Why gender-specific addiction treatment is beneficial to women
  • The factors that lead to addiction in women
  • The family, relationship and history risks to women
  • Also the motivators and detractors to women seeking treatment
  • How to determine whether a woman has a drinking or other drug problem
  • The success of addiction treatment
  • The differences in body chemistry and health factors between men and women
  • And the statistics on women’s addiction from pre-teenage to old age

 

Marketing Director, Marilyn Spiller added a section on the prevalence of white wine advertising directed at women. She also discussed the drinking trends in women (especially young women) and why a woman cannot Drink Like a Man
