Sanford House transformed to serve women with drug and alcohol dependence



Shortly before its opening, Sanford House owner Rae Green did an interview with Fox 17 West Michigan. During the interview, Green explained that the reason for the nontraditional environment that Sanford House offers is due to the belief that women heal from the disease of addiction in a warm, comforting environment, which builds self-esteem. When asked what sparked her interest in this field, Rae explained that addiction affects 1 in 10 Americans, or about five million women, only 14 percent of which receive treatment. Although the house only offers 10 spots for the 30 day program, Sanford House also offers intensive outpatient services for those struggling with addiction.
