Dawn Walcott, LMSW
Dawn earned her master’s degree from Western Michigan University. And began her social work career at a local psychiatric hospital on the child and adolescent unit. She provided case management and therapeutic services to children and their families. She also facilitated group therapy and was a member of the Unit Practice Council (UPC). As a UPC member, Dawn created improvements to the care environment through low-cost innovation. She moved to outpatient services in the same health care system after 6 years. And there, Dawn treated a range of mental health concerns including substance use.
The bonds created in treatment at Sanford are so impressive. The support from staff and peers allows clients to move into their recovery armed with the skills to maintain sobriety.
Since joining Sanford, Dawn has worked in both residential and outpatient facilities. She also facilitates groups and provides individual therapy.
In her free time, Dawn loves spending time with family and friends. She likes to bake, craft, eat, kayak and play with her 3 dogs (not necessarily in that order). She’s always ready to vacation and explore new places and new foods!
Dawn says, “The Sanford Team understands the unique strengths and qualities of our clients. We look forward to being a part of their recovery. Every day I watch humans do large and small, brave and strong things. Taking steps towards their goals. It’s inspiring to witness!
