Swans – Comfort in Community

It’s a family affair…

 

Another brisk walk around Reeds Lake and we uncovered a family of swans nesting in a safe harbor: mother, father and three cygnets. Swan families stick together – reminding us there is safety in numbers and comfort in community…

 

Swans usually mate for life, though “divorce” does sometimes occur, particularly following nesting failure, and if a mate dies, the remaining swan will find another as a mate. The number of eggs in a typical clutch range from three to eight. We can’t wait for these “ugly ducklings” to transform from grey youngsters into those gorgeous white birds – gliding majestically on the lake…
